Tokyo rattled by quake, no tsunami warning

Buildings shook in Tokyo and emergency phone alarms went off when a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck near the capital on Friday morning, with no tsunami warning issued. This was brought home by this year's 7.5 magnitude New Year's Day quake, which hit the Noto Peninsula and killed more than 230 people, many of them when older buildings collapsed.
