Heavy rain in regions may take monsoon overall close to ‘normal’

The monsoon season in India may end up being close to 'normal' despite the current 6% rainfall deficit. Heavy rainfall in certain areas and the prediction of more rain in the coming days could bridge the deficit gap. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) initially predicted a 'normal' monsoon at 96% of the long period average, but later spoke about the possibility of a 'below normal' monsoon due to El Nino conditions.
