Govt aims to raise scrap share in steel making to aid green initiative: Scindia

On Wednesday, Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the government aims to elevate the share of scrap in the steel-making process to 50% by the year 2047. Emphasising the importance of utilizing scrap in steel production, the minister highlighted that manufacturing metal through scrap and other waste materials is a less polluting method, aligning with the "green steel initiative." Scindia emphasised that the use of scrap not only diminishes the reliance on natural resources but also results in a 25% reduction in emissions compared to the primary route of steelmaking.
